Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Robert Schalk

I am beginning my 34th year of teaching and for the past 30 years I have taught at Powell County High School in Deer Lodge, Montana.  Presently I teach American History to all juniors and World History to the freshman and sophomores.  I am an assistant basketball coach at the high school level and in the spring I am the director of our traffic education program here in Deer Lodge.

Travel Experience:

I love to travel and in 2007 Mediterranean Discovery program traveling with 12 Montana middle school students to Italy, France and Spain.  In 2008 I was a European Heritage program leader and traveled with 19 Montana high school students to England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland.  In 2009 I led an Australian Adventure program traveling with 12 high school students to Australia and in 2010 I led a European Experience program and traveled with 12 high school students to England, France, Belgium and The Netherlands.   Over the last 19 years I have also taken many students to Washington D.C.; an outstanding world capital that our students love.

Hobbies and Interests:
I really enjoy spending as much time as possible with my family.  We enjoy camping and four-wheeling in the mountains around Deer Lodge.  I am back into hiking into the mountain lakes in and around Deer Lodge.  I have the past two years began teaching traffic education in Darby and Thompson Falls, Montana.

My favorite teaching moments are:

Reading my student’s papers as they tell exciting stories of what they just learned in American and World History.  Especially historically or culturally, papers that brings the student to the places we just studied.
